Sound and light show on the walls of the Palace of the Popes


From November 21. to December 1., attend a dynamic, iridiscent and very colourful light performance on the walls of the Palace of the Popes !

You will enjoy such a performance in front of the Palace of the Popes with family and friends.

7 minutes and 13 scenes will make you march in the footsteps of the great History of Avignon and the Popes !

In the Land of Ochre

Discovering ochre with Okhra, the Conservatory of ochre and applied pigments that organises tours of the site and ochre quarries with colour workshops. Ochre is explained through temporary exhibitions and lectures.

Not to be missed: the garden of dyes to learn how plants are used as pigments for paints, inks and textiles!

Must do: Sentier des ocres (the ochre trail) in Roussillon, open year round to discover the open-air ochre quarry and visit the mines of Bruoux, for the underground exploitation of ochre.

Medieval celebration of the Golden Rose

On Sunday, 13. October-from 10:00 to 18:00-, the city of Avignon steps back through time to Middle Ages !

Hear ye, hear ye, Ladies and Gentlemen! In this day of grace of the year 6 of the Golden Rose celebration, more than 700 gallant knights and warriors will face the challenge of the Rose d'Or - the Golden Rose.

Join the camp where you will meet knights, artisans, tavern-keeper, herborist, cooks, money-coiners and scribes illuminating manuscripts, calligraphy artits, leather workers, archers. ....

Do not miss !

-Many different craftspersons animate the market, offering medieval pastries, dyed cloth, clothing and armor. 

-The play areas for the young maids and squires - here the children can try their hand at the knightly arts, with sword (in foam!) combat and other challenges. Dances and other entertainment occur all day long.

- The immense battle at the end of the day, where knights face off in order to win the Golden Rose !

Avignon Luminessences - a monumental 3-D performance at the Palace of the Popes

A 3D show in the very heart of the Palace of the Popes that gives you an entirely new experience to enjoy. You’ll leave for a dreamlike voyage through the centuries. 

The neighbouring Rhône will flow through its walls; the trumpets will resound on its ramparts. Colour and the play of lights will turn this mineral enclosure into an open-air stage. Here, again, the nights are always filled with magic!


From Thursday 15 August to Saturday 28 September 2013, at 9:15 pm and 10:15pm. Every evening in August, and on Fridays and Saturdays in September. 

Prices: Free for children under 8 / €8 for children aged 8 to 17 / €10 per person

Let's be a Roman for a weekend : the Roman Legions

On Saturday 21. and Sunday 22., the city of Orange steps back through time to Roman ages.

Hundreds of costumed characters relive the story of the Veterans of the IInd Legion of Gaul, founders of the Roman colony in Orange.

On the programme
-A Roman camp on Saturday and Sunday from 10:30am to 5pm at the Roman Theatre - here children can practice training with the legionnaires.

-Emperor Augustus reviews the troupes at 11:30 am on Place des Frères Mounet.

-The archers, legionnaires, and Roman citizens parade through the city on Saturday and Sunday at 12noon.

-There is a Imperial Roman ceremony at the Roman Theatre at 12:30,

And all day long from 9 to 6 there are ateliers and demonstrations to go back in time and truly relive the life of the legionnaires.

Tickets are: 9 €, 7 € for the 7 to 17 years old, free for Under 7. Family ticket: free for 2nd child over 7 (with 2 adult and 1 child paid tickets).

The Fortress of Mornas: historical reconstruction

Come listen to the story of the Fortress of Mornas and watch performances and animated tours.

The Fortress of Mornas in the Upper Vaucluse proudly stands with knights, lords, troubadours and ladies. They invite you to a wonderful journey to the heart of the Middle Ages to learn all about the site. For over an hour, a series of authentic characters take you through the Fortress to discover daily life in the 13th century, tell about legends and present the weapons... 
Animated tours accompanied by a guard and the lord of the Fortress  at 11am, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm and 5pm 
- on weekends during holidays in April, May, June and September. 
- Every day in July and August, 

Visit on your own: every day 1:30 to 4:15 in February and March. Monday to Friday 10am to 4:45 in April, May, June and September.  

Animated tours fees: 
Adult: 8 euros - Children (-12 years): 6 euros.
